Italy has a very complicated system of Emergency help. For example in most countries you dial a central number and you get help, which as Italy is in Europe that number is 112, however that isn’t the most effective way to get any help in Italy, that goes to a local Police station who may refer you elsewhere, or not respond quick.
So the numbers you need are as follows
112 for the central emergency number, they can call ambulances etc, but it is a Carabinieri call centre you are calling if you dial 112 so best to use one of the direct numbers below.
113 is the Police
115 is the fire service
116 is for road assistance, a bit like you get when you call a motoring company, they can offer advice and help.
118 is for medical emergencies
1530 is the coast guard
116117 is for non urgent medical advice, the service is in Italian and English
